Description

This collection consists of archival materials held by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's McLean Library and includes images of the founding members of the garden and projects connected with the garden’s early expansion and improvement. Regarded as one of Philadelphia's largest and most dynamic community gardens, Glenwood Green Acres was founded in 1983. The garden occupies 3.67 acres and is located 1801 W. Glenwood Avenue in North Central Philadelphia's Susquehanna neighborhood. It helps address local food insecurity issues by participating in Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s City Harvest Program.

The garden serves as a destination for Philadelphia Green-sponsored tours and as a location for horticultural workshops. It has hosted intergenerational projects on the heritage of southern agriculture with its crops of tobacco, cotton, and peanuts.
